Many see Normal-type Pokemon as being a bit too vanilla, with their lack of distinct strengths and weaknesses just far too basic for some players' tastes. That's not to say that Normal-types can't still be incredibly useful from time to time though, as evidenced by some of the post-game battles in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
RELATED:
Those hoping to find the best Normal-types in Pokemon Legends: Arceus will have to look pretty hard, as they're often hidden away in hard-to-reach or out-of-the-way places. It's certainly worth the effort to track them down though, as these powerful Pokemon can completely turn the tide in battle if they're used correctly.
5 Snorlax
Snorlax's Base Stats | |
---|---|
HP | 160 |
Attack | 110 |
Defense | 65 |
Special Attack | 65 |
Special Defense | 110 |
Speed | 30 |
Total | 540 |
Ever since its introduction back in Pokemon Red & Blue, the gentle giant Snorlax has been something of a fan favorite. Sadly, it's fallen victim to power creep a little since then, but still remains one of the best Normal-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It hits hard and can take a beating just as well, though only if the opposition favors Special Attack-based moves. It also has access to Rest, which, as the game uses the Drowsy status rather than Sleep, is now an infinitely more effective move. Due to its already low Speed stat, Snorlax is best with a Brave nature.
How to Get Snorlax in Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Players can catch an Alpha Snorlax in the Sandgem Flats area of the Obisidian Fieldlands. Alternatively, its unevolved form Munchlax can be found in the Deertrack Heights area of the same region as well as in the Snowfall Hot Spring section of the Alabaster Icelands. Munchlax evolves into Snorlax with a high friendship stat, which players can increase by using the Pokemon in battle, feeding it EXP candies, and having it harvest materials out in the field.
4 Ursaluna
Ursaluna's Base Stats | |
---|---|
HP | 130 |
Attack | 140 |
Defense | 105 |
Special Attack | 45 |
Special Defense | 80 |
Speed | 50 |
Total | 550 |
Ursaluna is a Normal / Ground-type Pokemon and one of several new evolutions introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It hits incredibly hard and boasts an immense Defense stat, making it one of the tankiest Pokemon in the entire game. Its secondary-typing is a bit of a mixed bag, however, as though it does add a few decent resistances into the mix as well as a complete immunity to Electric-type attacks, this all comes at the expense of three new weaknesses. That said, Grass and Ice-type attacks aren't all that common in the game, so it's only really the two times weakness to Water-type attacks that players will need to worry about most of the time. Ursaluna is best with an Adamant nature.
How to Get Ursaluna in Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Players can evolve Ursaring into Ursaluna by using a Peat Block during a full moon. They'll be able to find this rare evolution item in the Crimson Mirelands by using the mountable Ursaluna to dig for treasure. Players can catch Ursaring in the Ursa's Ring area of the same region as well as in the Sonorous Path area of the Coronet Highlands.
3 Regigigas
Regigigas' Base Stats | |
---|---|
HP | 110 |
Attack | 160 |
Defense | 110 |
Special Attack | 80 |
Special Defense | 110 |
Speed | 100 |
Total | 670 |
When it comes to stats, there aren't too many Pokemon that can compete with Regigigas in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Its 670 base stat total is the fifth-highest in the game and no Pokemon boasts a higher Attack stat. It's a lot quicker than it looks too, and so with 110 Defense and Special Defense stats, the only thing that the pure Normal-type really needs to worry about is coming up against Fighting-type opposition. Regigigas is at its best with an Adamant nature, which raises its Attack stat at the expense of a little Special Attack.
How to Get Regigigas in Pokemon Legends: Arceus
To catch Regigigas, players will need to return to the Snowpoint Temple in the Alabaster Icelands after completing the main story and speaking with Cogita. Once there, they should head down to the basement, where the Icicle, Iron, and Stone plates will open up a large door and the path to the slumbering giant, Regigigas.
2 Blissey
Blissey's Base Stats | |
---|---|
HP | 255 |
Attack | 10 |
Defense | 10 |
Special Attack | 75 |
Special Defense | 135 |
Speed | 55 |
Total | 540 |
The HP stat is usually one that most players tend to ignore, but that's a little difficult to do when it comes to Blissey. The Normal-type Pokemon's 255 HP stat is the highest in the entire series by some margin and helps to make it one of the most enduring Pokemon out there. Of course, its 135 Special Defense stat also plays a big part in this sturdiness, as too do restorative moves like Soft-Boiled and Draining Kiss. Blissey also has access to attacks of just about every type imaginable, making it the perfect Pokemon for dealing with powerful Special attackers. Most players tend to look for a Blissey with a Calm nature, though Gentle can also work pretty well.
How to Get Blissey in Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Players can find an Alpha Blissey up on the mountains near the Obsidian Falls area of the Obsidian Fieldlands. Its non-Alpha form can be found in the Avalanche Slopes area of the Alabaster Icelands. Alternatively, Blissey's unevolved forms Chansey and Happiny can also be caught in these two areas, as well as in the Hideaway Bay area of the Cobalt Coastlands. Happiny evolves into Chansey when exposed to an Oval Stone during the daytime and Chansey evolves into Blissey with a high Friendship stat. As is the case with other evolution stones and items in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Oval stones can be exchanged for Merit Points at the counter in Jubilife Village, dug up with Ursaluna, or found on the ground in space-time distortions.
1 Arceus
Arceus' Base Stats | |
---|---|
HP | 120 |
Attack | 120 |
Defense | 120 |
Special Attack | 120 |
Special Defense | 120 |
Speed | 120 |
Total | 720 |
Strictly speaking, Arceus is a multi-type Pokemon, meaning that it can switch between every single type in the game. Its regular form is a Normal-type, however, so that's how most tend to classify it on paper. Arceus has the highest base stat total in Pokemon Legends: Arceus by some margin and is also tied for the position of the strongest Legendary Pokemon in existence. Its well-balanced stats, extensive move pool, and Multitype ability allow it to cater to just about any play-style imaginable and all but guarantee its place at the top of just about any "best of" list in which it's eligible to be included. Due to its perfectly-balanced stats, many players opt for a Neutral nature for Arceus, such as Serious, Quirky, or Docile in order to keep all of their options open.
How to Get Arceus in Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Those hoping to get Arceus will first need to catch 239 of the 242 Pokemon that are available in Pokemon Legends: Arceus (all but Shaymin, Darkrai, and Arceus itself). After doing so, they should head back up to the Temple of Sinnoh and play the Azure Flute when and where prompted. This will lead to an epic battle with Arceus, after which, the God Pokemon will be added to the player's team. Players can then change Arceus' type by using the special plates that they collected throughout the game's story.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
