Throughout the years, the Pokemon TCG has introduced and forgotten about plenty of mechanics that at one time dominated the game. The Lost Origin expansion brings back one of these older mechanics, the Lost Zone. As a more permanent version of the Discard Pile, the Lost Zone does not allow anyone to interact with their cards at all — completely cutting players off from whatever winning strategy may be locked away.

However, the Lost Origin expansion brings all new and powerful ways to indirectly interact with the Lost Zone, meaning many of the most expensive cards in the set are going to be those that are concerned with the Lost Zone. As with most Pokemon TCG sets, the extremely rare Alternate Full Art versions top the charts for value, but a few regular versions of cards make it through.
These prices are determined by the average market price from cards listed on TCGplayer, and are subject to fluctuations as time passes and the competitive meta evolves. Prices may not be the same as at the time of writing.
Updated March 23, 2023 by Ryan Hay: The Lost Origin expansion has been out for some time, giving players and collectors plenty of time to dive into sealed products, cracking as many packs as it takes to get all the cards they're chasing after. As more cards have flooded into the market, several cards have drastically changed in price. Some cards shot up in price, while others have plummeted as cards either became more widely available or tournament results have been less than expected. Several cards from the Lost Origin: Trainer Gallery have been included as well, bumping several other cards further down the rankings.
12 Kyurem VMAX (Secret) - $11.50
The rainbow design of the secret rare Kyurem VMAX highlights every detail of the massive Dynamaxed Pokemon, even down to the swirling clouds that circle Kyurem's head. With Kyurem VMAX in play, you can accelerate it up to its attack with the Glaciated World ability, discarding through the top card of your library unless it is a Water Energy. If it is, you can attach it to any one of your Pokemon in play.

Once you hit three Water Energies on Kyurem VMAX you can unleash its Max Frost attack. This attack deals 120 damage as the base number, going up by 50 for each Water Energy you choose to discard from it. This scaling attack rewards you for adding extra energies to it, letting you take down your opponent's higher HP active Pokemon if you're struggling to push through.
11 Eternatus VMAX - $12.19
Sitting at an impressive 340 HP, the highest in the Lost Origin expansion, Eternatus VMAX is a powerful VMAX card. With one ability and one attack, Eternatus VMAX lets you set up for an impressive amount of damage for just two energies. Eternatus VMAX's ability, Eternal Zone, lets you have eight Pokemon on your bench instead of the usual five, under the condition that they are all Darkness Pokemon.
Then you can start taking out your opponent's active Pokemon with Dread End, an attack that deals thirty damage for each Darkness Pokemon you have in play. With a full bench and Eternatus VMAX in play, you can easily deal 270 damage in a single attack.
10 Giratina V (Full Art) - $12.57
Giratina makes a return to the Pokemon TCG with Giratina V. As the Full Art version of the card, Giratina V has the fancy textured foiling that collectors love. Giratina V’s first attack allows you to look at the top four cards of your library, and then fill up your hand and your Lost Zone with two of those cards.
This helps give you a way to draw those powerful Lost Zone cards that may be hiding in your deck. It also increases the number of cards in your Lost Zone, so those strategies can capitalize on the mechanic.
9 Aerodactyl VSTAR (Secret) - $13.15
It's no secret that this Aerodactyl VSTAR secret rare is on this list, given the fantastic rainbow artwork and unique abilities that the card has. Aerodactyl VSTAR's VSTAR Power attack, Ancient Star, gives it an ability when activated. This ability removes all abilities from your opponent's Pokemon V in play, both their active Pokemon and benched ones.
You can use Aerodactyl VSTAR's Ancient Star attack and then switch out another Pokemon to the active spot, since Aerodactyl VSTAR keeps the ability active even if it's not your active Pokemon. Since it only costs one colorless energy you can wait a few turns until you build up a few more energies to attack with the Lost Dive attack.
8 Giratina VSTAR (212) (Secret) - $21.25
Giratina is dominating many of the highest-cost card lists in Lost Origin, and for good reason. Not only is Giratina VSTAR extremely powerful, but the Gold Secret Rare version looks positively stunning.

Showing off Giratina in all its golden glory, any player looking to flex their deck at the next tournament will need this card. Giratina VSTAR has a powerful attack with Lost Impact, dealing 280 damage for three energy. It does have a steep cost to using it though, requiring you to put two of the energies attached to Giratina VSTAR into your Lost Zone, but if you can close a game with an attack or two, it will be well worth it.
7 Giratina VSTAR (201) (Secret) - $25.30
Giratina VSTAR’s fancier Rainbow Rare version is worth only a little bit more than the plain version, but the design certainly makes the card pop. Giratina's VSTAR Power can only be activated if you have ten or more cards in your Lost Zone, but in exchange you can automatically Knock Out your opponent's Active Pokemon, no matter how much HP it has.
While this Secret Rare has the same stats as the regular version, there’s no denying that the colorful rainbow effect does wonder for players looking to upgrade their deck. You’ll rarely find a prettier card to absolutely demolish an opponent with this Giratina’s VSTAR Power!
6 Pikachu V - $33.35
Featuring the trainer Red from the Pokemon games, the art for Pikachu V is a great homage for fans who have been playing the games for a long time. The two might be a little lost but they've got each other and thats all that matters.
Pikachu V comes from the Lost Origin: Trainers Gallery and is one of the most expensive cards from the set. With two attacks, Pikachu V sets up for a 1-2 punch, searching up to two Lightning Energies and attaching them to Pikachu V, and then using all that energy to unleash a powerful Thunderbolt, dealing 200 damage to your opponent's active Pokemon.
