Completing the Pokedex is the Only Way to Catch Arceus

To be clear, completing the Pokedex doesn't mean having a perfect entry for every Pokemon — it just means having a Level 10 entry for each Pokemon. It's hard work, but definitely achievable, and adding the literal god of Pokemon to the team is a worthwhile reward.

The short answer is No. As both Pokemon can only be caught during the main story by having save data from other games, Shaymin and Darkrai do not count towards Pokedex completion in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Completing All Research Tasks. When a player has completed enough Research Tasks, their Research Level will continue to climb. At 10, they'll be able to view their entry. Completing all Pokemon's entries in the Pokedex is the only way to get the Shiny Charm in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

In order to encounter Arceus, you need to catch every Pokémon in the game. That's no easy task, but thankfully we've got a list of the complete Pokédex, so that should make things a bit easier. Once you've done that, head back to the Sinnoh Temple and play the Azure flute.

When focusing on the main objectives, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is about 25 Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 78 Hours to obtain 100% completion.

As you may have guessed from the not-subtle hint, you'll need to capture all the remaining Pokemon before the Azure Flute will summon Arceus. That will mean capturing almost every Pokemon in the game, which is no simple task. You'll need 237 Pokemon in all, and it will be the first 237 in the Pokedex.

You don't need to capture Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai or Shaymin. You can do these quests whenever you want (if you capture them you will have 241, Arceus as final Pokémon, 242 out of 242).

Fortunately, since capturing Darkrai is required to complete the Request, the Mythical Pokémon will respawn after trainers return to Jubilife Village if they accidentally knock it out in battle.

You'll need the Member Card, which is being distributed via Mystery Gift between the new moons, to encounter Darkrai. As with Arceus, you'll first need to enter the Hall of Fame and obtain the National Pokedex in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl before you can encounter Darkrai.

While Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place before Pokémon entered the game world's global zeitgeist, players still have to catch 'em all. You're not allowed to tackle (and capture) the game's final challenge, Arceus, until you have a complete Pokedex. Unfortunately, this means you have to catch all 28 Unown.

Can you complete the full Pokédex in Legends arceus?

Completing your Pokédex in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is certainly a formidable task, but with enough determination, it is achievable.

The Shiny Charm will increase your chances of finding shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and, to get it, you need to reach Research Level 10 for every Pokémon in the Hisui Pokédex.

Not only do you need to have caught every single Pokemon in the Hisui region, but you have to raise their Pokedex Research Level to 10. Not counting Darkrai and Shaymin, that's 242 'mon that need their entries filling out to the max.

Arceus is an Event Pokémon, meaning that it could only be acquired legitimately through special events held by Nintendo. The last Arceus event was in 2010 and there are no more planned, meaning the only way to get one in Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum without cheating is to trade with someone who got one from the event.

One of the new mechanics introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is Research Levels for your Pokédex. It's no longer enough to simply see or catch a Pokémon, each has a list of Research Tasks to complete in order to raise that species' Research Level, up to a maximum level of 10.

The longest Pokémon game to date is the 2006 release, Diamond and Pearl, for the Nintendo DS. It clocks in at 40.5 hours, with 93 hours required to beat the main game plus extras, and 260 hours to complete. The Switch remakes are shorter, coming in at 26.5 hours.

Releasing multiple Pokemon isn't difficult, but it can be easy to miss how to do it. If you have a full party of six Pokemon with you at a given time, all the extras you catch will automatically go into Pastures, the Arceus version of Pokemon PC boxes (and still represented by boxes in the in-game icons).

Can you have all 3 starters in Pokémon Arceus?

Players can effortlessly gain access to all three starters by simply beating the main portion of the story and speaking with Professor Laventon. After defeating both legendaries and starting the post-game, the player can get the two starters they didn't choose by simply talking to the professor.

If you have save data from Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on your Switch, after you've finished the game, you can consult the message board in the Galaxy building, and you'll be offered a quest to catch Darkrai. Head to the area on the map, and you'll get a spooky cutscene after which Darkrai will appear.

So far as that goes, you should first know that it's not possible to catch any of the game's Legendary Pokémon until the very end of the game's main story (most of them can only be caught after completing the game's main story).

Catching Darkrai in Pokémon Platinum requires a Member's Card. Unfortunately, the only official way to get the Member's Card is by attending a Nintendo event which ended in 2009.

Powering up Darkrai is not a bad decision at all. However, if you already have a full team of counters to psychic and ghost type raid bosses, you might want to think about it twice.

Darkrai and Shaymin require a different game to get, so they definitely aren't needed to get Arceus.

Darkrai, hands down, as long as they are roughly the same level. Mewtwo's psychic moves have no effect on Darkrai, and while he still has Hyper Beam and a couple of fighting type moves, without mega evolution he doesn't get the same type attack boost.

Darkrai. If you have play records from the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Pokémon Shining Pearl games, you'll be able to take on a research request in Pokémon Legends: Arceus in which you'll have a chance to add the Mythical Pokémon Darkrai to your team.

You can also get Darkrai in a different Pokemon game - Pokemon Legends: Arceus, as long as you have Pokemon Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl saved data on your Nintendo Switch.

What is the point of catching all Unown?

The Perfect Dex is unlocked after registering 20 Perfect (4 star) Pokemon, and it keeps track of all previously caught Pokemon.

As such, the Shiny Charm's two extra rerolls now increase the chance of encountering a Shiny Pokémon from 1/4096 to approximately 3/4096 (roughly 1/1365).

You aren't guaranteed to get a Shiny Pokémon after 4096 encounters. It might take 10,000 encounters, or even 20,000 before running into a Shiny Pokémon! Likewise, you could get lucky and find one in under 100. Each individual encounter a chance — you're just playing the odds.

At the start of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are 1/4096. With the Shiny Charm, those odds are cut in half to 1/2044. This can be further reduced by making Shiny Sandwiches, or by looking for mass outbreaks.

To complete a Pokédex entry in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you need to complete enough Research Tasks for that Pokémon species until you've reached Research Level 10. A completed Pokédex entry.

Requirements for unlocking Arceus

To capture the titular creature in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you need to do three things: Beat the main game and have the credits roll. Gather all hidden plates and beat Giratina. Catch all 239 Pokémon in the game.

Sneaking up on Pokémon

If you can slowly circle your way around a Pokémon, hit it from behind with a Poké Ball to do the secret back strike technique. This will give you a higher chance of a successful catch (and may even earn you some extra money when you submit survey reports).

You can't catch it no matter what you do because you need to increase your in-game rank by several stars. Just be patient, fill out those Pokédex entries, rank up, and come back later. You will know you can start trying when the red “X” that hovers above it changes into a Poké Ball icon.
