Company Overview. Burlington Stores is a New Jersey-based fashion-focused discount retailer with over 832 stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico as of October 31, 2021. Burlington purchases excess inventory from clothing manufacturers and department stores and sells this merchandise at large markdowns to consumers.
But is Burlington, cheaper than Marshalls? Burlington offers clothes at a slightly lower price than Marshalls, especially dresses and blouses. Both Burlington and Marshalls have great deals and discounts. While Marshalls has a wider selection of merchandise, Burlington has great offers.
We've shed the “Coat Factory” and just call ourselves Burlington to better reflect the amazing and varied assortment of merchandise we carry. We've rebranded ourselves to better represent the wonderful shopping experience we deliver in our stores and online every day!
In 1976, TJ Maxx was founded in Framingham, Massachusetts, United States, by Bernard Cammarata. The first international store opened in Bristol, UK, in 1994. The company modified the name to TK Maxx to avoid confusion with the established British retail chain T. J. Hughes (which is not affiliated with TJX).
T.J. Maxx and T.K. Maxx are the same. Their logos look the same, they share the same concept (selling deeply discounted goods from department store brands), and they're part of the same parent company, called TJX Companies.
According to the TJ Maxx website, the retailer sources inventory from “a wide variety of opportunities, which can include department store cancellations, a manufacturer making up too much product, or a closeout deal when a vendor wants to clear merchandise at the end of a season.” Discount stores, on the other hand, ...
Burlington is your convenient one-stop shopping experience where you'll find a large assortment of current, high-quality, designer and name-brand merchandise at up to 60% off other retailers' prices every day.
Compact and beautiful, Burlington is home to a thriving arts scene, museums and educational opportunities, great shopping, three colleges and a university, as well as a full range of four-season outdoor pursuits. It's no wonder this small, friendly city consistently earns national awards.
Technically, Burlington coat factory is like a way lower priced TJ Maxx, though I'd liken it more to a Ross than TJ Maxx. To be honest, I've always thought of it as being more comparable to a thrift store, only it can be slightly more expensive.
What is the best day of the week to go to TJ Maxx?
Try stopping any time Tuesday through Friday.
The best time to shop at stores like HomeGoods and TJMaxx is generally late morning, Tuesday through Friday. Mondays aren't great because it takes time to replenish the shelves after the weekend. (And we already covered why the weekends are bad.)
- Burlington is a national off-price department store retailer. Headquarters are located in Burlington, New Jersey.
- When does Burlington restock?
- Burlington is restocked several times per week. Sometimes stores are restocked even daily. ...
- Most common days when restock is done are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Add some color to your coat closet with bright new styles, puffer jackets, anoraks, packables, even vests. Save on ways to stay chic in the chill, because the temperature may be low, but so are our prices!
The Company rebranded the chain -- from Burlington Coat Factory to Burlington Stores, in order to communicate that Burlington is “more than just coats.” Surpassed $5 billion in sales in 2015.
1983: The company goes public and changes its name to Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp. The Company operated 31 stores at the time of the IPO, and with the capital raised proceeded to double its store count to 68 stores by 1985.
That's because technically, T.J. Maxx and Ross are off-price retailers. That means they both buy overstock inventory at discounted prices from manufacturers and other department stores, which allows them to sell these products at a discount as well. That's not the only trick they use to keep costs down.
Top apparel brands are moving away from discount chains such as TJ Maxx, Burlington and Ross amid supply chain pressures. Even before the pandemic, these brands were trying to move away from off-price companies because they are the least profitable outlets for brands.
Unlike brands and stores that lock in their inventory six months to a year in advance, TJX and other off-price chains buy surplus merchandise to sell it right away. They also capitalize on orders that have been canceled or when companies manufacture too many items.
We operate T.J. Maxx and Marshalls (combined, Marmaxx), HomeGoods, Sierra, and Homesense, as well as tjmaxx.com, marshalls.com, homegoods.com, and sierra.com, in the U.S.; Winners, HomeSense, and Marshalls (combined, TJX Canada) in Canada; and T.K.
Maxx, Ross and Burlington due to global supply chain issues. Designers like Levi's, Under Armour, Ralph Lauren, Carter's and Steve Madden have decided to sell their clothing at full price.
Is there a difference between TJ Maxx and Marshalls?
While T.J. Maxx is better known for designer items and jewelry, particularly with its The Runway collection, Marshalls carries more footwear and has an expanded men's department and a junior department known as The Cube.
No, it's not expired. Discount stores such as TJ Maxx and Marshalls (which are owned by the same company, Marmaxx) negotiate high volume deals with manufacturers which enable them to buy products at a discount.
It doesn't stand for anything. Although the name was created using the initials of its founders which are T, J, and X. TJ MAXX is a riff off of the name TJX Companies.
Yes, the makeup at TJ Maxx is authentic. Normally the cosmetics you find are all 'real' they are just from close out/discontinued products or brand overstocks.
